The Stair and Edge Guard was an upcoming innovation by Protecta, that had to be sent to their printer earlier than the deadline for the finalized branding guidelines due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control.

REQUIREMENTS

Icons had to fit with the new branding guidelines that were still being finalized (as these would be used for future products) while being in-line with existing, standardized icons used in the sector, meaning recognisable and legible at a distance.

OUTCOME

After researching a range of icons already actively used in the sector, I merged elements together to create a new set of icons that were similar enough to be easily recognized by those in and out of the industry, while being different enough to be recognized as Protecta’s product feature icons.

After test-printing to size and laying them out on stairs, I raised the icons and type above center to take into consideration legibility for pedestrians from their partially obstructed viewpoint while climbing the stairs.
